Mindfulness Meditation

This practice involves sitting comfortably, focusing on your breathing, and bringing your mind's attention to the present moment without drifting into concerns about the past or the future. This form of meditation has enjoyed increasing popularity in recent years. Research suggests it may be helpful for people with anxiety, depression, and pain.

Guided imagery

For this technique, you conjure up soothing scenes, places, or experiences in your mind to help you relax and focus. You can find free apps and online recordings of calming scenes—just make sure to choose imagery you find soothing and that has personal significance. Guided imagery may help you reinforce a positive vision of yourself, but it can be difficult for those who have intrusive thoughts or find it hard to conjure up mental images.  YouTube is an excellent choice.   Here is an example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y70O2vEP1FE

Phone Apps

CALM – does have a cost, but it is well worth the price.  There are soothing bedtime stories, guided mediation, and soothing background noises (to drown out other noises while you sleep).

Brainwave 35 Binaural Programs – this app is amazing.  It uses different frequencies of brain waves to affect your mood.  I think there is a small charge, but well worth it.  Use it with earbuds.

Square Breathing

Square breathing, also referred to as four-square breathing, is a breathing technique that helps you to feel invigorated, energized, and focused. It can also help to reduce stress and invite feelings of calmness and tranquility into your mind and body.  This video shows you how to do it and helps you focus on your breathing.  Learn this technique and practice it often for stress and anxiety.
